February 2023 :: Wildland Restoration Project ~ Call for Volunteers!

| February 22, 2023 |

Things here at the Springs have been in full swing lately! In this update, we're putting the call out for volunteers and co-learners to come join us in our springtime Wildland Tending & Restoration Project coming up in March and April! And save the dates for our upcoming Aletheia Community Days happening in February, March and April– the next one being this coming weekend on Saturday, February 25th. Finally, we'll update you on the great progress we're making with the Repair to Reopen Campaign and pool restoration work as we gear up for a strong return guest season opening May 6th!

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS! :: LEARN WILDLAND RESTORATION Come learn about tending our native Northern California oak, madrone and bay woodlands to increase biodiversity, restore habitat, and reduce hazardous fuel loads! Next month in March, we'll be hosting 2 separate Saturday work party days here at the Springs as part of our new Wildland Tending & Restoration Project! All levels of experience are welcome. A delicious lunch will be provided - likely from El Molino Central! To reserve your spot on Saturday, March 25th AND/OR Saturday, April 1st (and a save-the-back-up-date on April 15th), from 9am-1pm (lunch at 1pm), please sign-up HERE. Guided by the expertise and instruction of arborists and restoration professionals from the Sonoma Ecology Center, we'll be learning how to care for and be in deeper relation with our wildlands. This restoration project is made possible by two grants from the Community Foundation Sonoma County and the Jack London Yacht Club. We hope to continue this important restoration project every spring as we work to gradually restore the entire back hillside areas and the former trail network that traverses this beautiful area!

UPCOMING ALETHEIA GARDEN + COMMUNITY DAYS

Our next monthly community day is coming up this weekend on Saturday, February 25th. Our RSVP tradition at Aletheia is to "call if you're coming," meaning, you only need to RSVP if you'll be joining us, that way we'll know to expect you! A couple of new things to note! First– we've just added a monthly volunteer and connect opportunity to these Community Days– Garden Volunteer Mornings! We invite any and all who might enjoy working alongside us in our organic farm & garden for an hour, or a few, in the mornings from 9am-12pm to join us on any of these monthly Aletheia Community Day mornings.

Under the wise guidance of our wonderful new Farm & Garden Mentor/Manager, Layla Aguilar, come enjoy some simple and enjoyable work with your hands in the earth, good convo, and a hot springs soak after if you like! No experience is necessary, and all ages and levels of expertise are invited! Stay afterwards for either a quiet nap under the oaks, a hot soak, or enjoy some family free play time by the creek before joining the community dinner. Or duck out early–all flows are welcome. : ) Lastly, as we get into the busy guest season in May, please note that we don't anticipate having the capacity to concurrently host our community days. So, the below dates will likely be the last ones until fall. We hope we get to welcome you to one or all!

PUBLIC REOPENING & CAMPAIGN UPDATE With such an incredible and continued showing of support from our wider Morton's community, our friends, family, allies and network, our GoFundMe has now crossed the 90% threshold– we're in the homestretch to meet our $50,000 goal! If you feel at all inspired to help us cross this major finish line with one final share or contribution, we'd be ever so deeply grateful! Also, to report... the final pool permits are due to be issued from Sonoma County THIS WEEK (fingers crossed and a prayer there) and the new tile and plaster work is set to begin next week, ya'll! That will be the very last phase of the pools restoration/resurfacing work to reopen–which will be happening Saturday, May 6th! Some other fun tidbits are that we've just upgraded to a brand new 3-phase pump at our hot spring well source, we'll be installing some truly gorgeous new (finally to-code) pool railings in the warm pools, and we'll be using the entire month of April to run new plumbing lines and test all the newly upgraded systems. These critical upgrades will give us increased energy efficiency, lower our overall water use AND increase the ambient temperatures of both our two big geothermal warm pools! : )) With all the good energy and land projects flowing in high gear this season, we're feeling pretty inspired, appreciative and diligently focused with all that's at hand. Here's a couple of pics below from this week with our steward, Larry, refurbishing the iconic Morton's road sign and giving it some much-needed love! It'll be as crisp, clean and refreshed as the pools!

Thanks for reading about our progress and for any shares regarding our restoration work, volunteer opportunities, Community Days and upcoming season with the good folks you know. We hope we may get to see you on the land soon!
